Kruti Dev uses the Remington (typewriter) keyboard layout. Each key on your English keyboard corresponds to a specific Hindi Devanagari character. The test displays the text in Kruti Dev font — you see Hindi script — and you type the corresponding keyboard keys. Your WPM and accuracy are calculated in real time and displayed immediately after the test.
Kruti Dev is a family of ASCII-mapped Devanagari fonts created for government and official use in India. The most common variant, Kruti Dev 010, uses the Remington typewriter keyboard layout. Because each keystroke produces a specific ASCII character that the font renders as a Devanagari glyph, Kruti Dev text is not Unicode — it cannot be copy-pasted into Unicode applications without a converter.

Unlike English typing, where keys display what they type, Kruti Dev keys show Latin letters but produce Hindi characters. You must memorise the Remington layout fully before attempting speed practice. Start with the most common characters — vowel matras (ा, ि, ी, ु, ू, े, ै, ो, ौ) and high-frequency consonants (क, ख, ग, त, थ, द, ध, न, प, ब, म, य, र, ल, स, ह).
In the Remington layout, the home row keys (ASDFGHJKL) contain many of the most common Hindi characters. Practise the home row characters until they are completely automatic before moving to upper and lower rows.
Start each practice session with a 15-second or 30-second test to warm your fingers. Then progress to 1-minute and 2-minute tests. End the session with one 5-minute endurance test.
Target 95%+ accuracy consistently before trying to push your WPM higher. Errors in Hindi typing exams typically carry a penalty deduction, making accuracy more important than raw speed.

Download the Kruti Dev 010 TTF file, right-click it, and select "Install". The font will then be available in all applications on your Windows computer. For our typing test, place the font file in the hindi/fonts/ directory of the website.
Yes — as of 2025, Kruti Dev remains the mandatory typing font for most state-level government exams in MP, UP, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh. Central government exams (SSC, Railways) use Mangal (Unicode) instead.
